FLOW Alpine / Freeride / Snowboard

GTSSF now offers Flow or Competition Team programs.

The Flow Program is GTSSF’s premier non-competitive track across Alpine, Freeride, Snowboard, and Cross Country disciplines. Designed specifically for young athletes, it emphasizes skill development, mountain awareness, and fostering a lifelong love for skiing and riding.

Through fun, guided exploration of varied terrain, athletes build strong fundamentals, teamwork, and confidence—perfectly preparing them for a smooth progression into advanced programs. Our ultimate goal is to create well-rounded skiers and riders by blending the precision of gate training with the freedom of all-mountain exploration.

 Program Schedule & Options

Season: December – March

  •  U8: Sundays only
  •  U12+: Sunday + 1 Day, or Sunday + 2 Days options
* Note: Program fees do not include the volunteer deposit and other associated racing fees.
 Skill Development & Focus

Our curriculum places a heavy emphasis on play, varied terrain, and refining ski fundamentals. The three core technical components we target are balance, rotary, and edging.

Coaches emphasize having fun while actively building teamwork, learning mountain safety, introducing gate training, and enjoying time outside. Guided free skiing and drills are an integral part of the Alpine Flow program. Furthermore, children will be encouraged to lead a balanced lifestyle with healthy habits that promote success in sports and life.

"Positive parental support is essential. Athletes are arranged in groups based on skill, speed, and social needs."

 Skill Assessment *Required

We will conduct the USSA SkillsQuest Assessment on the 1st day of practice. This assessment determines which specific group within the program your athlete will participate in.

If a child is not yet ready for programs, families can leave any payments on their account to be used at a future date or receive a full refund. Should your athlete need to work to improve on any of the skills within this assessment, we will recommend moving back to Flow. Athletes will be recommended to move from Flow to Team based on their coaches’ recommendation.

✓ Note: Any children who participated in programs last year may register and participate without doing the skills assessment.

Skills Assessment Criteria

  • Athletes can load and unload all Grand Targhee lifts independently with no assistance, put down the bar, and be aware of lift safety (sit back in the chair).
  • Ski on Shoshone and Dreamcatcher, at a minimum.
  • Participants must be able to put on their own ski equipment.
  • Ability to ski parallel a majority of the time.
  • Ability to listen to instructions.
  • Drills to assess turning, stopping, and pole planting.
  • Coaches may require additional skills not listed here.
Races & Competition

Races are not required; however, athletes are highly encouraged to compete in Club Series races. Local Club Series Races offer lots of race experience and are inexpensive to enter.

Volunteer Work Deposit

Each family is required to purchase one refundable work deposit each season before completing athlete registration. Positive parental support is core to our program, and families are encouraged to get involved and volunteer. The deposit is credited at the end of the year if volunteer hours are fulfilled.

Volunteer Opportunities Include: Golf Tournament, Movie Night, Ski Swap, Donor Functions & Events, Races, Competitions, and fun events such as the Surf Classic. It is perfectly fine if the event does not directly correlate with your athlete's current program.

Coach to Athlete Goals Grand Targhee Ski & Snowboard Foundation follows recommended PSIA, US Ski & Snowboard, and USSA guidelines. Our goal is to maintain an athlete-to-coach ratio that does not exceed 7 athletes per coach.
Ski Passes Pass prices are not included in GTSSF program fees. Grand Targhee Resort passes must be purchased directly through the resort. Nordic participants are required to have a Teton Valley Trails & Pathways Nordic Sticker; a Grand Targhee Resort Nordic pass is encouraged.
Holiday Schedule & Make-Up Sessions GTSSF will not be hosting programs on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, or New Year's Day so our coaches and families can enjoy that time with friends and family. We intend to provide make-up days for all participants based on schedules. Look for an email from our coordinator with make-up session opportunities.

Transportation

Shuttles or other rides will be coordinated by coaches and race parents based on where athletes attend school and the needs of other teams. Transportation is never 100% guaranteed, and travel expenses are not included in program fees. Please review the Grand Targhee Shuttle page for travel options.

Payment, Plan, & Refund Policies

If an athlete anticipates participation in multiple competitions over the course of a single season, that family may prefer to set up a monthly or bi-weekly payment plan to cover estimated costs. An additional invoice will be sent after each event for any balance owed to account for the difference between the deposit and the actual cost. GTSSF does not mark up any event costs.

GTSSF payment and refund policies can be found in our Parent Handbook, available online here.
